The Canonization of the Bible

Wednesday 6:00 pm | Room W-04/05 | CO-ED

The first class will be "Canonization of the Bible" where I will attempt to explain why we have these 66 books in our Old Testament and New Testament. What reason caused the canon to be closed, what books did not make it in the Bible and some did? Why did the Counsel of Trent in 1517 ratify the Roman Catholic Vulgate when Jerome who translated the book into Latin said that the Apocrypha was not scripture? What were the guidelines and qualifications to get a book added to the OT/NT Canon - why did some that did not make were allowed to be used and others marked as heresy? Was the NT actually closed by the Early Church Fathers before the Counsel of Carthage in 397 AD Closed and settled the NT and OT books we have? Led by Phillip Chenault.
